Making Mistakes: How to Embrace Them! Part 1 of 5 Series

beaut from a dark room
How many of us have made a mistake in our lives?

Every one of us!  One of the most comforting things I have learned from studying literature that spans centuries is that I have come to understand one invaluable lesson:  whatever error or mistake we make; someone, somewhere in history has already made it already!

As part of the human race we share a number of important things:

1.  We are made of blood, muscle and bones.

2.  We feel sadness, anger, love, jealousy, joy and many other emotions.

3.  We are mortal.

4.  We are all connected.

5.  We ALL make mistakes.

Avril Lavigne sings in her song, Complicated, “Chill out, what you yellin’ for?
Lay back, it’s all been done before,” so we can comfort ourselves in the fact that whatever we do to err in this life; it’s already been done at least once – probably millions of times!

How do we deal with the fact that we are not perfect and that we do make mistakes?

1.  We need to embrace our darkness – that part of ourselves that is quite capable – if not expert – at making mistakes.

2.  We need to own up to our mistakes the best we can and be determined to learn from them; so that we do not repeat them and we are able to approach the same situation in a much better and clearer perspective next time.

3.  We need to remember that what our mistakes teach us most of all is this:  To not judge others when they make mistakes and to demonstrate compassion to others in their mistakes.

4.  We need to learn to demonstrate that same compassion for ourselves – that is the ONLY way to be more compassionate to our fellow human.

5.  We need to learn to forgive ourselves when we make a mistake and not ruminate about it – thinking about our error will indefinitely lead to more mistakes as we will not be focused on improving, but on our fear of faltering again, and therefore, we will re-create more mistakes.

L.O.V.E – lights, camera, action! – Part 1 of Top 5 Ways to Change the World

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-U0pMpYFJY (A wonderful link to watch and listen to after reading the blog – to remind and encourage you that you can be sure whatever you do in action for someone; the Universe will see to it that it will be contagious!  Trust in that!)

In my blog # 18, I mentioned that love is not a feeling, but an action.  You may have heard this before, but many of us have a difficult time getting our mind around this idea because often we are convinced we feel “love” somewhere in our bodies.

We certainly feel in our bodies, a response to a thought about love.  For example, imagine in this moment something or someone to which you feel love.  What is the feeling?  Where in your body do you feel it?

It is often a feeling of excitement like butterflies in our stomachs or a warm feeling in our hearts or maybe if it is romantic love, it is a longing to touch or be touched or kissed by that person.  These are physiological responses to thoughts, which is wonderful as it means that we can not only train our minds to think about love; we can also help our bodies to simulate these feelings whenever we choose.

Sometimes when I simply gaze at a picture of an ocean or look down at my beautiful aqua-blue ring that reminds me of the ocean, I feel a warm sense in my chest and an uplifting feeling.  I do not necessarily have to be standing on a beach in Cuba to feel this type of “loving” feeling – our minds are wonderful entities in that even when we imagine a person, event, or situation that we associate with happiness, our bodies react as if these experiences are real.

Herein lies the key to acting in love and thus, creating more love in our lives and consequently, attracting more of it too.  There is a very simple action that we can take in order to lift our frequencies from that Frustration Station of 97.5 to the L.O.V.E. Station of 101.5.  It is the action of doing a kind deed.

Almost every time in my life when I have found myself in a low or depressed state, something will happen either by coincidence or something that I do by choice for someone else and lo and behold I am uplifted out of this lower vibrational state into a higher, more loving state.  An example of this is that I am often the first person on the scene of accidents and I am confronted with an opportunity to act or react in a manner that causes me to completely forget about my own life, worries or situation and to be entirely focused on helping another human being.

My homework is not of course for any of us to go find the scene of an accident (but perhaps be open to whatever situation the Universe brings to help us out of our own funk) but to consciously choose to do something kind for someone else today.  You may buy the coffee for the person behind you in line (or the drive-thru) or you may not even decide what you’re going to do – part of what helps make each day more exciting is to start my day off with this simple prayer:  God/Universe, please put in front of me anyone (or anything including an animal) that may need a helping hand today.

Instead of hoping for a guardian angel, ask God/Universe to allow you to be one for someone else. How cool would it be to know that when you leave your home during the day that you could be on a mission for a higher power – imagine for one day what it would be like to know that God has chosen you to be his helper on this earth. You might be amazed at how willing God and the Universe is to use you to “love” another human being! One thing I know from experience is that when you put love into action and help another human being feel loved; the blessing will be returned to you exponentially.  One cannot out give the Universe; nor can one out love God!

Please try this experiment for one week with me.  Feel free to write to me at tcooperauthor@yahoo.ca or leave a comment about any of your experiences.  I would love to hear about anything that you do or have done that has helped you to tune into a higher vibrational frequency!

How can you live your own Renaissance?

1.  Change Your Perspective:

     The Mystery of Mona Lisa:

“When the viewer looks directly at [her] mouth…the fovea{of our eye] does not pick up the shadows, and the portrait no longer appears to be smiling.  Therefore, the appearance and disappearance of her smile really is an attribute of viewers’ vision. This is one of the reasons why the painting has remained an enigma to art enthusiasts and perhaps the most famous painting in the world.” http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-the-mystery-behind-the-mona-lisa.htm

Another example is the pigeon; it’s head continually sways from front to back so that when its head is in backward motion, the pigeon is re-aligning its vision in order to see what is ahead of it.  We need to do this on a continual basis as well – step back from a person, decision, situation – in order to gain a fresh perspective on it and in many ways, this results in fresh solutions or actions that we begin to realize we can take regarding any situation in our lives.

2.  Think differently:  This is similar to gaining a new perspective but it entails actually training ourselves to catch the bombardment of negatives thoughts we have, when we have them and to cancel them and exchange them for more hopeful, insightful ones.  This isn’t always easy.  Read my posts under Re-programming Our Subconscious Mind for practical ways to do this.

3.  Change Your Words:  We begin with our words and then match our vibrational energy – how we feel about the words and their overall message or meaning – to them. For example words such as joy, pleasure, fun, happiness, wealth have a much higher vibrational energy than words such as sadness, fine, okay, bad, depressed, debt. Essentially, we create our lives and the things in it by sending out certain vibrational words and thoughts. This is why it is SO important not just to say your affirmations but to feel and visualize you feeling the joy of success, or having the job or relationship you want.  Please refer to my posts under Affirmations & Manifestations.

4.  Stop Trying to Force Things:  While I am convinced that the more we begin to think, speak and act positively and raise our vibrational level, the more we will begin to feel better and manifest things in our lives; I too, recognize that we must not overwork ourselves at it either. Otherwise, we can also create negative effects by putting too much pressure on ourselves and actually manifest something we do not really want or need.  Please refer to my posts under Affirmations & Manifestations.

5.  Keep Health at the Top:  Always include a reference to your health. Our subconscious at the very base level, is most concerned with our health and survival. Hence, it automatically keeps all of our internal organs working, our heart beating and our brain active even when we are asleep. So when we pair whatever we desire with the fact that having it will bring about a more peaceful or joyful or healthy existence for us, our subconscious works even harder to bring it about.  Here is my example:  It is EASY, HEALTHY and JOYFUL for me NOW to be financially FREE to TRAVEL and to WRITE! Thank you!  Please refer to my posts under Health & Healing.

6.  Stop Settling for Second Best: When we settle for less than what we want, it’s because we do not have enough faith to believe we can and will get exactly what we ask for.  Hence, we usually end up with less than what we had hoped for.  Choose what you want and keep your focus on it! Please refer to my posts under Prosperity.

7.  Avoid Toxic or Negative People:  If there are people in your life who negate what you think, believe or aspire to – these people do not share your positive energy and will most definitely create, if not in your life, then in your own consciousness a seed of doubt which inevitably, despite our best efforts can lead to a full-fledged weed within our minds. Avoid people like this. Obviously people mean well and want to give you advice. However, while humans cannot open certain doors that the Universe can; humans too can keep doors shut with their own minds that the Universe cannot open. Be wary of the company you keep and the thoughts that you entertain!  Please refer to my posts under Love & Relationships and Fear.

8.  Align Your Actions with Your Words:  Another obstacle lies not in our words but our actions. For example, if we steal anything there is a strong message to the Universe that we cannot afford to buy things. If we borrow or use the copier at work for personal items, it sends the same message. We must live a life of the utmost integrity to send the utmost positive messages to the Universe that we can afford and believe we deserve the very best.  Please refer to my posts regarding Affirmations and Manifestations.

9.  Be Grateful:  Every day, we need to give thanks for what we have and to focus on that; not on our lack.  For example, if we are awaiting something to manifest in our lives, we need to rejoice in the things that have already happened and the things that are about to happen. What I want to stress is that once things begin to flow in our lives, we must rejoice in them and we can also utilize them to convince our subconscious that we indeed receive the things in which we need and for which we ask. It is not always easy to be patient and keep our faith in-the-meantime; however, if we focus on the times in our lives and the things that have manifested, we are better equipped to handle those times that it appears nothing is happening.  Please refer to my posts regarding Gratitude.

10. Love: Thoughts of love (not necessarily the romantic kind, but rather love as in pure appreciation) vibrate higher than any other emotion. Period. You (in your non-physical form) are essentially unlimited love, joy, and abundance. Everything that everyone wants in their life is because they think it will give them a taste of these things – love, freedom, and joy.

The basis of your life is freedom.

The purpose of your life is joy.

That is why you are here. So find something, anything that you love and fixate completely on it for a few minutes. It doesn’t matter what the object of your love is – just feeling the emotion purely will raise your vibration.
